Hoops are the limit of size when digitizing.
Name is whatever you want to call your hoop—E.g. A jacket, oversized or pocket.
The hoop is a square.
If you have a round or oval hoop, you need to round the photo using transparent pixels to use the hole hoop.
Let colors get used on the crucial parts of the image.
Edit your starting image background and make it a sepia tone, black and white, blur the colors out or delete it. If there are lots of colors, your images may be going to maximum colors before it makes the part of the photo you care about.

The PhotoEmbroidery process will ignore transparent pixels, but if you leave an opaque white (or another color) background, it will fill this in with thread. The non-rectangular designs that result from using transparency cost less and often look nicer.
When you digitize a photo, there is an option to change the maximum number of colors allowed. The default of 20 works with most photos but some can work with fewer colors some need more.
The PhotoEmbroidery process can capture some rather striking details, but only if it has those details to work with.
If the design cannot capture the details you desire, it could be that a larger version might achieve the desired results.
Transparent pixels do not get filled with stitches. Supported in png and gif files.
